    Ping pong is on…

Matchup No. 1. Lowell vs. Pedroia. This is the first matchup of the season.

Early on Lowell has the 6-4 advantage. Midgame they trade some forehand smashes.

The match goes all the way to 17 all. Lowell is the winner 21-17. Pedroia is not sure about the score. He asks to check the video tape. Request is denied.

Youkilis is now matched up against Lowell. During the Pedroia-Youkilis matchup, Youk shaved the foam off the paddle. Does he have advantage over Lowell?

The answer is no. Lowell wins 21-15.

    Youk blames the humidity.

    Next match - a Lowell-Pedroia rematch.

Early on it is Lowell 7-5.  In the end, Lowell wins again and moves to 3-0.

Position players report today and the action on the field is limited.

From a production perspective it could not be busier.

The crew is working on a Theo Epstein one on one, shooting a stand up for a Beckett interview that was taped yesterday; and an interview with Manny Ramirez.

For tonight’s shows, Aberdale says we will use all this plus have live visits from Pedroia and Jon Lester at 6:30 and Julian Tavarez at 10.

It’s not beneath Beach Postings to do a little self promotion, so let’s do so.

Our moles tell us that earlier in the week a Sox fan went up to a NESN on air guy to ask him where Comcast SportsNet was doing its show.

The NESN guy was taken aback. You see the fan prefaced his question by saying, “I know you work at NESN but can you tell me where…”

The on air guy’s response, “I don’t know, the beach”

The Comcast SportsNet Ping Pong table is Ready

The top item for today revolves around ping pong.

    Not baseball, ping pong.

Early last week, Kevin Youkilis challenged his teammates to ping pong. According to CSN photog Bill Messina, Youkilis offered to play anyone at anytime if someone would get him a table.

Ask and ye shall receive. On Tuesday, Comcast SportsNet had a table delivered. Two hours later, the table was ready.

Match play begins after today’s workouts (we hope).Rumored participants are Pedroia, Mike Lowell (aka the quiet assassin), and Herald writer Rob Bradford.

Look for play by play later today if this goes down.

Jim Aberdale talks with photog Jeff Garcia

Abedrale watches over Terry Francona interview

The ballpark has gone relatively quiet and it appears that the crew has satisfied a number of the objectives.

After Terry Francona sat for his daily press conference, he went one on one with Felger. This was Terry’s first one-on-one after the presser. In Francona’s first year as manager he came out to beach and on at least one occasion he has visited our Burlington studios.

According to Aberdale, managing relationships with Francona, the players and Red Sox staff is a key part of his efforts. “Getting the story first, having relationships with people and having our place continue to grow is important to me. I like getting to see the human side of the players,” he said.

Immediately before the storm of 11 a.m., Aberdale had a chance to talk about his background and life long interest in sports TV.

Aberdale, aka Abs, is a Westfield native and grew up in a split household - half Yankee (dad) and half Red Sox (mom). As early as the fourth grade he realized that he wanted to go into sports broadcasting. His college career began at Syracuse, but he quickly realized that he didn’t want to be in the “middle of nowhere”. That led him to Emerson where he graduated in 1998.

Apparently Boston kids aren’t learning to hate at an early enough age. Enter Ben Affleck, who’ll voice “Red Sox Baby,” a DVD available April 17 ($19.99), which will teach your kids how to enunciate “Jeter sucks” and “Pettitte, can your dad get me some HGH?” The DVD will also teach children how to count, steal (bases, I assume) and dip smokeless tobacco.

Here’s the Channel 7 news story.

(Note: These videos will be available for all teams except the Expos.)

For Yankee fans, this has been a versatile look of late, useful when watching playoff games, Congressional hearings or press conferences involving Roger Clemens, Hank Steinbrenner, Andy Pettitte or Rudy Giuliani.Hello spoiled fans of Red Sox Nation, my name is Cam Martin and I’m a hired word monkey. My job this season at Comcast SportsNet is to blog about Red Sox baseball from a fan’s perspective, which should be easy since a) I’m a Red Sox fan, and b) I blog. If you don’t think I’m qualified, then you failed the syllogistic portion of your SATs and you need more schooling. For the last year I’ve been covering Major League Baseball at BugsandCranks.com, a Web site devoted to the lighter side of our nation’s pastime. The site receives 1.75 million unique Web visitors per hour, so if you haven’t seen the site, you’re the only one. Get cracking (www.bugsandcranks.com/author/cameron-martin/).

At Bugs & Cranks, I am expressly forbidden from being a complete Red Sox homer, but The Freakin’ Man can’t touch me here, so I intend to be the homer’s homer, or at least the homer who sheds some light (and hopefully humor) on the 2008 Red Sox season.

Aberdale says the busy time is now upon us.

The player workouts are now over and the primary objectives are to:

    1) Talk to Ellsbury about coming to Pink Shell
    2) Get one on one with Francona and Theo Epstein
    3) Shoot feature for use later in the week
